Frequently Asked Questions

  • An aura is described as the energetic field that surrounds the body. Many traditions understand this field as reflecting aspects of mood, personality, and emotional state.

  • Aura photography uses specialised equipment to translate subtle biofeedback signals from the body into colour.

At Colour Fields, portraits are captured using the AuraCam 6000, an analogue camera developed by Guy Coggins in the 1970s. Hand sensors measure electrical signals from the body, which the camera converts into colour fields around the sitter.

Aura photography emerged during a period when interest in self-exploration and consciousness was expanding. Today, it remains a playful and reflective experience, offering a rare analogue moment of connection in an increasingly digital world.

  • Aura photography is best understood as a reflective and interpretive tool rather than a scientific measurement. Many people enjoy it as a way to pause, reflect, and explore the symbolic meaning of colour and energy in their lives. It’s an invitation to check in with yourself, a moment to see what the colours may be reflecting, whether that feels affirming or offers something to reflect on.

  • Each colour is traditionally associated with different qualities such as emotional states, personality traits, or areas of focus in a person’s life.
